The Pop-Up you will Never Get
For most platforms, their business model depends on keeping you on site, as long as possible. The moment you leave the site, their revenue stream stops. They can't sell your eyeballs to advertisers.
Social Media platforms claim they are just connecting you with people, helping you have friends, doing "good things" for the world!
But if you ever try to leave the site and actually meet someone in person, they will fight that with every roadblock possible.
Platforms actually know a lot about you. They know your likes, dislikes, who all your friends are, and know when you are online. If they really cared about your connections with friends, you would see a pop-up like this:
POP-UP:
"You have been on site for 30 minutes now. Did you know 3 of your friends living nearby are also on site right now? Maybe you would like to call them?"
You will never get that pop up. Never.
But they could do even more...
POP-UP:
"Would you like us to give you their phone numbers? We have it right here. Would you like some navigation? We can take you to where your friends are right now."
Since they know your interests, they could do even more!
POP-UP:
"We understand that you are interested in watercolor art. Did you know there is an art exhibit visiting your city right now? Three of your friends are also interested in art. Why don't you call them, and you can all go down to the art show? Here are the directions."
That would be their worst nightmare! Three people getting OFF the platform, to look at something else?! They will fight that with every trick and tool they have.
And if you DID go to the art show, the platform will spend the whole time trying to get your eyes OFF the art, and back on the screen!
So--who are your real friends? Not the platform makers.
Multiple studies have shown that Social Media use leads to loneliness, depression, even suicide. Why?
They are not promoting real relationships, they are fighting them.
